Shared Stories hosts a Graphic Novel Book Club that’s well attended by local cartoonists and librarians, with plenty of room for more participants. Discussions are held every first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Shared Stories in Caldwell. This month’s reading on October 1 will be on Feeding Ghosts by Tessa Hulls.
Our upcoming selections are The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster, Paul Karasik, Lorenzo Mattotti and David Mazzucchelli, which will be discussed on November 5, and Tongues by Anders Nilsen, which will be discussed on December 3.
Local Comic Creator Spotlight: Some Hype for Tomorrow Girl from Albert Asker
From Albert Asker:
“Here are a couple of issues of Tomorrow Girl that I co-wrote. A couple of stories in #7 and the main story in #11. I'm particularly proud of the story in #11. Ever since I was a little kid I was a huge fan of this Mexican comic book series called Sensacional de Luchas or “Wrestling Sensational.”
Every WEEK a new issue would come out featuring a real-life luchador. Great stories and really great art. It was always one of the highlights of our trips to Mexico to visit family. The spiritual successor to Sensacional de Luchas came out years later when Santo, La Leyenda de Plata came out in the early 2000s.
This great artist by the name of Hugo Aramburo illustrated some of those Santo stories and some of those old Sensacional de Luchas stories as well.
Guess who illustrated Tomorrow Girl #11?”

“I was embarrassed that I didn't recognize his name right away, but later I was incredibly thrilled and humbled to be working with one of the greatest Mexican comic books artists of all time. I am so lucky and honored to see my name next to his in the credits. He also illustrated one of my stories in #7 as well.”

“We're working on a new story that I'm really excited for people to see. I'm so happy to be linked in this way to my favorite Mexican comic book series of all time. One of my favorite (Top 5) comic book series of all time full stop. It really is a dream come true for me.”
